![]() ![]() I have done this I don't know how many times and yes it shoots over the redline. When I said it put pressure on the transmission, I meant it put pressure on the transmission, ask any local technician. In any case, thanks to all those who posted, now I have a little more confidence I won't break the thing. In regards to your Freestyle, that's great, one less concern while I'm driving.Īnd yes, I've read the manual, and the pages indicated by another poster, but it only tells me it provides more engine braking. I realize its not a 'gear', as I know the CVT possesses no such thing, being a brand new car I didn't want to risk breaking it this early. It also works nice to put it in L when I am going around a tight entrance ramp -> the engine braking helps to keep speed under control, and then it accelerates faster when I am coming off the curve (because the engine speed is already at 3500-4000 RPM and doesn't need to speed up as much). ![]() I have a Freestyle, and I have moved the lever from D->L at highway speeds (70mph+) in order to get more engine braking when I want to slow down. See the owners manual for a description of each position on the gear selector. It is there so that you can tell the trans control that you want to run at higher engine speeds. It is not a gear - it is just a position on the shifter.
